Anger. Confusion. A lot of hurt. Words spoken gone awry. Hate spewed. Deceit declared to be the truth. Lives changed because what was said destroyed a relationship The past–—the pieces that are worth remembering,: the sage wisdom and memories that were meant to teach us––has being ignored. The future––not even being considered. Our world, as I remember it, is almost unrecognizable. But, hey! I’ve got the answer! The solution!
Well, actually, the book of Proverbs has the answer (God’s Word has many, many answers to THE problem).
“Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.” Proverbs 17:28
So, what is THE problem?? You know, I know you know.
THE TONGUE
Actually, I could stop writing right now, because most of you already know THE ANSWER. How many times have you said to yourself, “I wish I’d keep my mouth shut.” We all have the regret of speaking something that we wish we could take back. Control the tongue.
“They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.” Psalm 64:3
“You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.” Psalm 50:19
“In his pride the wicked man does not seek the LORD; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. His ways are always prosperous; Your laws are rejected by him…His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.” Psalm 10:4-8
THE problem seems to have gone really sour for our country. The world has given THE TONGUE full rein. What is being said whenever we speak does not seem to be connected to the brain.
But ,oh my, what power THE TONGUE has! This muscle is the strongest muscle in our body. It has the power to destroy beyond measure! Yet, wonderfully, it has the power to restore, renew, refresh far more than any other human power in the world.
My goal here on Arise to Shine is to encourage those who want The Lord to shine through their lives . To believe you can make a difference. The tongue plays a critical role in the life of the believer. We can’t ignore what power our tongues have and what impact our words have when we become beacons on the hill. What is God teaching us about THE TONGUE? He made us to be His people. He made us to conquer our humanness. Yes, there is hope.
